On Saturday, May 3rd, 2008, we invite you to join our Association in celebrating the splendour and refinement of the oriental culture at our Orchid Cocktail Gala - Asian Glamour.

The theme will evoke the chic of Asia's upper-class society - a theme that is both vintage and avant-garde! Imagine James Bond in Shanghai amidst the glamour and opulence of the 1920's in an Art Déco ambiance. The orchid is in itself a masterpiece admired as a Goddess since Early Antiquity. As the House of Guerlain beautifully describes it: "The Orchid is the flower of all mysteries and exquisite dreams".

On December 2001, Senator Vivienne Poy introduced a Motion to the Canadian Senate to designate May as the celebration month of the rich Asian Heritage in Canada. Accordingly, in May 2002, the Canadian Government officially recognized May as the Asian Heritage Month in Canada.

On Saturday, May 3rd, 2008, you are invited to a first class event organized by the Young Chinese Professionals Association (YCPA) to celebrate the Asian Heritage Month. Our Association's event is truly bold and unique, and is aptly named:

Our Association has been active for the past ten (10) years and we are continuously recruiting new members to promote and facilitate Asian networking in Québec and Asia. The core mission of our Association is to attract and connect the crème de la crème of young, qualified, up and coming Asian professionals that are currently building their network and positioning themselves to becoming tomorrow's leaders.

Our Association attracts young entrepreneurs, engineers, accountants, lawyers and other highly qualified professionals working in the field of health, finance and banking, high-tech, import-export, maritime and air transportation, etc.

Forming a mosaic of rich and diverse culture, our members come from many countries (China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, etc.) and speak several languages. In fact, 66% of our members speak at least three (3) languages: English, French, and at least one of the Chinese dialects (Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, etc.) and/or another Asian language.

We are frequently organizing conferences, cocktails and other networking activities to enable our members to expand their network and share their contacts and professionals experiences either in Canada or Asia. Furthermore, our Association is granting two (2) scholarship prizes to recognize the involvement and leadership of young Asian professionals. Our team also won the silver medal in the highly competitive Dragon Boat Race during the Festival International des Courses de Bateaux-Dragons 2007 that was held in Montréal.

Excerpt from the Canadian Heritage website (Government of Canada):

May is Asian Heritage Month. This acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada. It also provides an opportunity for Canadians across the country to reflect on and celebrate the contributions of Asian Canadians to the growth and prosperity of Canada.

Canada's cultural diversity strengthens the country socially, politically and economically in innumerable ways. Asian Heritage Month is an ideal occasion for all to celebrate the beauty and wisdom of various Asian cultures.

Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States since 1979. Over the past decade, many Asians in Canada began to celebrate their heritage during the month of May. In December 2001, Senator Vivienne Poy introduced a motion in the Senate of Canada to designate May as Asian Heritage Month. The Government of Canada officially recognized May as the Asian Heritage Month in May, 2002.
